We at American Liberty Hospitality have a long history of giving back to the community and world around us, and we have a good time doing it! These are a few of the ways we’ve been able to make a difference.
Massad Family Library
Nick and Vicki Massad presented the Hilton College of Hotel & Restaurant Management at University of Houston with a $1.5 million gift to significantly enhance the college's Library and Hospitality Industry Archives. The facility was renamed the Massad Family Library and Hospitality Industry Archives. Nick, a 1973 graduate, first learned of the college while working as a bellman at a Howard Johnson hotel in Arlington, Texas. “The college changed my life”, said Nick, "when I graduated, I always said that one day I would give something back."
Admiral Hospitality Scholars
Admiral Hospitality Scholars ("AHS") is a unique initiative created to provide an exceptional opportunity for a select group of Houston ISD high school students to launch a pathway to an exciting career in hospitality. The program was inspired by NBA Hall of Famer and philanthropist David Robinson who has used his sports and business careers as a platform to improve education. The program provides students with a meaningful hands on experience at local American Liberty Hospitality hotels, as well as a hospitality camp at the University of Houston and provide guidance and potential scholarship support for a college degree. David said this about the program, "My goal was to work with our partners to expose a diverse group of young people to exciting opportunities in the hospitality industry."
Over the Edge
For many years our Embassy Suites Houston Downtown has hosted Over the Edge, an event to raise money for Special Olympics of Texas. Each year this thrilling event’s participants repel down the 19 story hotel tower and collect nearly $200,000 for the non-profit group which supports over $50,000 athletes in Texas. In 2015, mother-daughter team Vicki Massad and Taylor Tritt took the challenge and went Over the Edge!
